Ryan Faragher’s roller-coaster season just went off the rails.
The Fort Frances native was put on waivers yesterday by the Anaheim Ducks–possibly ending his affiliation with the only NHL team with which he has been associated.
In 21 games this season with the Utah Grizzlies, the Ducks’ ECHL affiliate, the 26-year-old had a 10-9-0-1 record.
Faragher won his first four games this season, and five of the first six, before spiralling into a prolonged slump that saw him victorious just once in his next 10 appearances, including six-straight losses.
Then he was injured Dec. 9 and missed some playing time before being loaned to Anaheim’s AHL team, the San Diego Gulls.
Faragher never saw any action with the Gulls and was sent back to Utah, where he finally played again Jan. 14.
Since returning, Faragher had earned four wins in five starts–most recently on Wednesday when he made 18 saves in a 6-2 triumph over the Wichita Thunder.
Anaheim signed the former Fort Frances Jr. Sabres netminder in 2014.
Faragher is tied for 19th out of 37 qualifying goalies in GAA (3.02) and has the sixth-worst save percentage in the ECHL (.893).
