Fantastic Father’s Day for McLeods

U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk wasn’t the only golfer sharing a special moment with his dad on Father’s Day.
Wayne and Scott McLeod shot a combined score of 38 to capture their first victory in the annual Father’s Day golf tournament at Kitchen Creek on Sunday afternoon.
The McLeods were as hot as the balmy weather that played a big part in drawing a tournament-record 54 players to the event, which used a nine-hole, alternate shot format this year.
Ron and Bruce Kelly teamed up for a 42, which was just enough to stave off challenges from Mike/Chantal Dick and Terry/Jeff Ogden. Both those duos shot 43 to finish one back of the Kellys in the 40s flight.
Al and Alex McDonald won in a countback against Mike/Jordan Sinclair and Bruce/Jeff Holmlund in the 50s flight, with all three teams carding rounds of 51.
Louis Decaire and Dave Bonke also came out ahead via a countback as they squeaked past Tom Reid and Megan Ross in the 60s flight after both teams had shot 60 for the day.
Bob and Dave Ellis finished third with a 64.
Hugh and Karli McKinnon won the 70s flight with a score of 73.

In other golf news, the stars of the Manitoba PGA circuit will point their headlights toward Fort Frances this week as the professional tour makes a stop at Kitchen Creek next Monday (June 23).
Those coming out to watch the action will get to see about 40 of the top professional golfers from Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario take a shot at roughly $5,000 in prize money.
Tee times for the one-day tournament are scheduled from 9-10:30 a.m., with action wrapping up around 2:30 p.m.
Other major events coming soon at Kitchen Creek include the Junior Open on June 28 and the Great Centennial Golf Tournament on June 29.
