The pride of Devlin female curling is right in the fight at the 2014 Ontario Scotties.
Jenna Enge’s work as second helped Sudbury skip Tracy Horgan’s rink defeat Hollie Nicol (Don Mills) 9-4 this morning in Draw 6 of the provincial ladies’ curling championship in Sault Ste. Marie.
The victory put Horgan at 3-2 and tied for third in the standings with Julie Reddick (Owen Sound).
Allison Flaxey (Lisowel) and Julie Hastings (Thornhill) lead the way at 5-0.
Horgan, whose rink also includes sister Jenn Horgan at third and Amanda Gates at lead, scored three in the first and stole one in the second to build an early 4-0 lead.
Nicol closed to within two several times, but Horgan finished strong with a single in the eighth and then a steal of two in the ninth.
Horgan rebounded from an opening loss Monday with a 9-3 blasting of Dawna Premo (Sault Ste. Marie) on Tuesday night.
Then yesterday, Horgan thumped Ashley Kallos (Thunder Bay) 10-4 in just seven ends but fell 4-3 to Hastings in last night’s draw.
Horgan was back on ice ice at noon today against Kendra Lilly of North Bay (2-3) in what will be the only draw of the day.
The outcome was unavailable by press time.
Tomorrow’s busy day for Horgan starts with her postponed match-up against Flaxey at 8 a.m., followed by a meeting with Cathy Auld of Mississauga (2-3) at 1 p.m.
Then she’ll conclude the round-robin against Sherry Middaugh of Coldwater (2-3) at 6:30 p.m.
Tie-breakers, if necessary, will be held Saturday morning, with the top four teams advancing to the Page playoffs that begin at 1 p.m. that day.
The final is set for Sunday at 3 p.m.
