It was a loss they couldn’t afford to take.
The Tracy Horgan rink from Sudbury, with Devlin’s Jenna Enge playing second, fell 8-6 to Cathy Auld (Mississauga) in the second of three draws Friday at the 2014 Ontario Scotties provincial women’s curling championship in Sault Ste. Marie.
Despite beating Sherry Middaugh (Coldwater) 9-6 in the final draw of the day, it wasn’t enough.
Horgan finished tied for fifth with Auld at 5-4—one win short of forcing a tie-breaker with Kendra Lilly (North Bay), who clinched the fourth and final playoff berth with an 8-5 victory over Ashley Kallos (Thunder Bay).
Allison Flaxey (Listowel) wound up capturing the provincial title with a 7-5 triumph over Julie Hastings (Thornhill) in yesterday’s final.
The Scotties Tournament of Hearts takes place Feb. 1-9 in Montreal.
