Emo Speedway looking forward to season

The 2008 season is fast approaching for the Borderland Racing Association, with lots of events lined up throughout the entire summer.
Starting this Saturday (May 17), weather permitting, the Emo Speedway will open with tire races for the kids during intermission. Candy will return to the track on two occasions this season—once on May 24 and again on June 21.
Every week, there will be something for the children during intermission. From bicycle races to car rides, there are activities galore to enjoy.
“Make sure to bring the whole family as everyone, young to old, can be assured of an evening of enjoyable activities,” enthused Anthony Leek, president of the Borderland Racing Association.
Some of the exciting nights planned for the Emo Speedway this season include the Canada Day celebrations, which will be held on June 28 presented by the Township of Emo and the Borderland Racing Association.
Among the usual races, cake will be served throughout the evening and fireworks will light the sky after the evening’s events.
July also will be an exciting month as the fourth-annual Mid-Season Shootout takes place July 12.
Returning for a third—and possibly final—year is the WISSOTA Super Stocks on July 19. The Northern Super Stock Touring Series will be returning once again to bring excitement to the Emo Speedway.
The series consists of four race dates: Bemidji Speedway on May 18, Greenbush Race Park in June, Emo Speedway on July 19, and ending in Winnipeg on Sept. 23.
Last year’s race in Emo drew 15 cars from all over the region. It is definitely something to see. Visit www.northernsuperseries.com for more information on the series.
As well, the month of August will have the usual two-day Emo Fall Fair Special. Set for Aug. 15 and 16, the double-header always features some of the most competitive and exciting races of the year.
The 2007 Fall Fair saw a high number of cars with fabulous racing—and the 2008 edition is sure to keep fans awed.
“All race fans in the region look forward to the Emo Fair, which is always action-packed and never disappointing for the spectators,” noted Leek.
Aug. 23 is the Keith McNally Memorial Invitational and the season championship, which will award the point champions for Emo Speedway’s 2008 season.
The yearly memorial is in honor of McNally, who passed away after rolling his Thunder Stock on Turn #1 during the opening lap of the feature event in September, 1993.
Sept. 6 is Fan Appreciation Day, with a 2 p.m. start time.
Powder Puff races have been set for June 28 and July 26 this season, and all women are invited to participate.
“The Powder Puff races are always entertaining to watch,” said Leek. “We have some women in the area that can drive a race car as well as, or better, than the men.”
For special events, the Borderland Racing Association has planned rain dates for the following day (Sunday) at 1 p.m.
