Emo skaters shine on test day

Emo’s own “Group of Seven” showed some impressive artistry on the ice Sunday morning.
The Emo Figure Skating Club’s final test day of 2002 was a complete success, with all seven of its participating members passing their on-ice examinations in a variety of levels.
Brandy Hyatt and Samantha Loveday enjoyed a double dose of achievement. Hyatt made the grade in the Intro Interpretive and Bronze Interpretive categories while Loveday qualified in the European Waltz and Ten-Fox events.
Meanwhile, Kayla Caul and Kennedy Latimer both passed the Swing category while Dana Drennan equalled Loveday’s accomplishment in the European Waltz class.
Kaylene Krause came through in the Preliminary Freeskate category, while Athena Pirkl fought through an ailing back and a shaky warm-up session to come through when it counted in the Senior Bronze Freeskate division.
Shane Katona, a former member of the Border Skating Club in Fort Frances and who also helped train some of Sunday’s skating group, returned from Thunder Bay where he’s attending school to serve as a partner for Loveday and Drennan in the European Waltz category.
