Interested in a little 3-on-3 hockey?
Emo is set to host its inaugural 3-on-3 tournament Dec. 27-28 at the Atom, PeeWee, and Bantam levels, and is looking for interested teams to register prior to the Dec. 15 deadline.
“We’re just kind of putting registration out there, but we’re hoping in the next couple weeks we’ll have some more teams decide that they would like to come,” said Lori-Ann Shortreed, one of the organizers.
“We’re able to take six teams per division, at $300 a team, and you are allowed 10 players per team so the price is reasonable,” she added.
Shortreed said 3-on-3 hockey offers the chance for players to improve their skills while having a lot of fun doing so.
“With the popularity of 3-on-3 hockey growing, we thought it would be a good opportunity to do a fundraiser to help out our arena in Emo,” she noted. “We have things that need to be fixed and repaired and replaced, and just the everyday stuff that’s needed to give our arena a helping hand, so to speak.
“It’s fast hockey, and I think it really improves the players’ skills,” Shortreed stressed. “It’s a good opportunity for the kids, and a lot of kids have played it around here with the Fort Frances league having gone on in the spring.”
Because of the condensed schedule and limited space, only six teams per age bracket will be accepted, so Shortreed suggested registering sooner than later.
“I would like if people pre-registered with me because of the limited amount of space that we have, so that way I can guarantee them a spot,” she remarked.
Brochures are available at the Ice for Kids Arena here and at other rinks in the district.
