Emo minor hockey teams had a strong week against visiting Fort Frances teams in recent action.
In Atom action, the Emo Hawks clawed their way to a 4-3 victory over the visiting MEC Bulldogs (Fort Frances). Tyler Cottam netted the game-winner with three minutes to go.
Terry Carmody (two) and Mike Badiuk also scored for Emo. The Bulldogs’ goal scorers were not recorded.
But the Hawks couldn’t make it two-straight, giving up three first-period goals en route to a 4-2 loss to the Causeway Cougars (Fort Frances).
Matt McLellan paced the Cougars with a pair of goals, with David Moen and Graham Hercun netted the other two. Terry Carmody netted both goals for the Hawks in the second period.
But the Selects got Emo teams back on the winning track with a narrow 3-2 win over Green’s Countrywide (Fort Frances) on goals by Ryan Witherspoon, Luke Judson, and Mav Judson.
Dayton Brown notched both goals for the visitors in the third but it wasn’t enough.
Meanwhile, the Emo Thunderbolts jumped out to a 3-0 late in the third period, then held on to nip the Fort Frances ‘AA’ Atoms 4-3.
Nathan Brigham, Eric Soucy, and Brock Benjiman had given the Thunderbolts the lead, with Jamie DeGagne netting the eventual game-winner midway through the third.
But Andrew Easton, Dan Chapman, and Kevin Bobczynski rifled home goals in the dying minutes to make a game of it.
The Emo Predators certainly took no mercy on the Esso Leafs ‘AA’ Atoms, rattling their counterparts 11-0.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the first on goals by Jason Yeo, Kevin Friesen, and Travis Wolframe, the Predators exploded for six more in the second to put the game out of reach.
Yeo and Friesen added their second goals of the game in that period, with Jason Peters netting two and Dennis Mutz and Craig McTavish netting the others.
Kyle Kuzyk and Ryan Mutz completed the romp with goals in the third.
The Predators then continued their high-flying ways against the Fort Frances ‘AA’ Atoms, skating to an easy 11-1 win.
Dennis Mutz and Kevin Friesen led the attack with hat tricks. Tyler Kinnear, Jason Yeo, Craig McTavish, Ryan Mutz, and Travis Wolframe rounded out the scoring.
Johnson replied for the losers.
Then then Thunderbolts scored three times in the first period en route to a 6-0 whitewash over the Fort Frances ‘AA’ Atoms. Brett Meyers (two), Eric Soucy, Tyson Romyn, Brock Benjamin, and Matt Redford scored for Emo.
Finally, in Bantam action, Tyler Pocock scored with just over three minutes to play to give Fort Frances a 3-3 tie against the Emo Cowboys.
Mike Niskala and Elijah Smith (his second) had scored in the third period to erase a 2-1 deficit. Matt Basaraba netted the other two goals for Fort Frances.
