Emo, Gillons’ advance to final

Both semi-final games in the men’s and women’s divisions of the Borderland Soccer League were low-scoring affairs yesterday evening at the St. Francis Sportsfield here.
On the men’s side, Emo blanked Domino’s 1-0 to advance to Sunday’s final.
Shane Ikert netted the lone goal game early in the first half. But despite several good scoring chances for both sides throughout the game, neither team could capitalize.
Emo keeper Thomas Edwards also made several key saves during the second half to keep his team ahead.
The men’s second semi-final match goes tonight at 6:30 p.m. when Gillons’, who had edged Subway 1-0 on penalty kicks on Tuesday night, squares off against Pharmasave.
That winner will meet Emo in Sunday’s final, which is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, Gillons’ shaded Taggs also by a 1-0 score last night to advance to the women’s final on Sunday.
Gillons’ dominated throughout the first half but was unable to put the ball in the net.
Taggs then bounced back in the second half to even out the play, but a goal by Sarah Gould in the final 15 minutes of regulation time propelled Gillons’ to the victory.
Gillons’ now will meet Curves, who had blanked FFHS 3-0 in semi-final action on Tuesday night, in the final, which gets underway at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
