Emo Bulldogs sit atop fastball standings

The Emo Bulldogs, looking for their third-straight league title, earned two more wins last week to improve to a perfect 4-0 atop the Rainy River District Fastball League standings.
Emo opened action last Tuesday with a 5-3 win over the previously unbeaten Barwick Blue Knights (now 2-1), led by a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth by Justin Grouette.
Sheldon Kelly picked up the win in relief while Greg Wilson took the loss.
The Bulldogs then travelled to Vanjura here last Thursday to play Sight & Sound and beat them 12-8. Sean Taggart hit his third home run of the year while Wayne Strachan also had a round-tripper for Emo.

In other league action last Thursday, Barwick edged Stratton 4-3 helped by Kent Ogden’s three-run shot in the bottom of the sixth. No score was available from the Big Island-Big Grassy game.
Last Tuesday’s action saw Stratton clobber Big Island 19-2, led by home runs by Don Gall and Claude Seguin, while Pinewood doubled Big Grassy 12-6.
In other fastball news, the Sunset Merchants were ousted in the playoff round at the Toledo Red Dog Invitational tournament in Winnipeg last weekend after losing 7-4 to the Kegel Black Knights of Fargo.
They opened the tournament with wins over the Dryden Longhorns (3-1) and Winnipeg Penguins (9-1) before losing 1-0 to the host Toledo squad.
