It’s been a rookie season to remember for Trevor Croswell.
The Emo resident placed third in the MX3 Beginner division behind the Ignace duo of Jonathon Szyszka and Cody Colby at the second-last tour stop of the year for the Northern Ontario Superior Dirt Riders motocross circuit Saturday in Atikokan.
That was good enough to give Croswell 231 points and a virtually uncatchable 52-point lead over Colby in the division standings with only one event left in the season (on Aug. 19 at Kakabeka Falls).
Croswell also was sixth in the Vet 40+ division, where he currently sits in third in points with 163.
Earl Reimer of Waldhof leads the way (250), followed by Bernard Oleksuk of Neebing (200).
As for the younger but more race-experienced member of the family, Brandon Croswell finished third in the 85cc age 12-16 class behind winner Cole Kutzler (Kakabeka Falls) and runner-up Taylor Yurick (Thunder Bay).
That top three holds steady when it comes to the division standings, as well, with Croswell (187) chasing both Kutzler (234) and Yurick (218).
Croswell also grabbed fourth in the Super Mini division, where he also is fourth in points (170).
Devlin’s Dylan Tessier was second in the 85cc age seven-11 division behind Dylan Zaporzan (Rosslyn).
He currently is third in points (192) behind Zaporzan (230) and Fisher Smith of Slate River (206).
Tessier notched fifth in the Super Mini division and also is fifth in the standings (122).
His younger sister, Kali, got into her first action of the season Saturday and placed fourth in the 50cc Jr. age four-eight division–good enough to also put her fourth in points (78).
Also finishing second Saturday was another first-time racer in Jayce Diotte of Fort Frances, who chased winner Griffin Dysievick (Kakabeka Falls) to the finish line in the 50cc Sr. age four-eight group.
Diotte is in a four-way tie for third in the division with 47 points, though that’s well behind Dysievick (230).
In the 65cc PeeWee age seven-11 division, Diotte was eighth to currently sit 14th in the standings (28).
Stratton’s John Gavel mustered a fifth-place showing in the Vet 40+ division and currently is fourth in the standings (117).
Gavel also wound up 11th in the MX3 Open division, where he’s currently hanging on to 10th spot (68).
To top off a busy day for himself, Gavel also crossed the line in 13th place in the MX3 Junior division, where he’s presently tied for 17th (22).
Lane Hyatt of Emo pulled double duty on the weekend, taking ninth in the MX3 Open group and 12th in the MX3 Junior division.
Hyatt is 14th in the MX3 Junior rankings (55) and 21st in the MX3 Open points race (24), just ahead of Pat Blair (Fort Frances), who is in a tie for 23rd (21) but did not race Saturday.
Unfortunately for Hyatt, he was unable to move up the charts in his best division as there were not enough racers in the MX3 Intermediate group to compete Saturday.
That left Hyatt in third overall with 74 points, well back of leader Scott Francis of Kenora (144) and second-place Corey Merritt of Shuniah (126).
Dawson Pollard of Fort Frances came through to finish 10th in the 65cc PeeWee age seven-11 division, where he holds down 12th spot (55).
Veteran racer Dan Dennis finally got in his first race of the season Saturday–winding up 14th in the MX3 Open group to sit in 28th in points (nine).
Emo siblings Cole and Alex Kreger missed Saturday’s races, with Cole sitting eighth in points in the MX3 Beginner category (104).
His younger brother also is eighth in the 85cc age seven-11 division (84) and 15th in the 65cc PeeWee aged seven-11 division (27).
