The Aquanauts made their annual trip north for the annual Kenora Sharks’ invitational meet over the weekend, where eight of the 15 competitive ‘A’ swimmers made qualifying times for a special invitational meet at the end of the month.
Heather Dutton qualified for six events in the over-15 division while Karli McKinnon qualified for eight in the 13-14 division.
In the 11-12 category, Boyd Badiuk will swim in eight events, with Rachel Dutton in seven and Alex Parent in six. Alyssa Holliday will compete in five, while Jennifer Lowey and Jessica Cousineau will hit the pool for four events each.
All eight will compete at the Prairie Winter Invitational in Winnipeg on Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
In all, 24 Aquanauts in the ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ categories competed in 169 races altogether last weekend in Kenora, including three with the Muskie swim team—Marina Boi-leau, Amanda Allan, and Ashleigh Dutton.
At first glance of the results, Aquanaut head coach Roman Ramirez said almost 90 percent of the events saw swimmers improve on their previous best times.
“It was really fun,” said Ramirez. “I really like the team. They really cheered for each other. The older ones were doing their best to help the younger kids.”
In related news, the Aquanauts announced the “Atikokan Sprint Meet,” scheduled there Dec. 8, instead has been moved here and will be organized by the local club.
Ramirez said the Atikokan club has had trouble finding a new coach.
The full slate of teams is set to compete and should be anno-unced by the end of next week, he added.
