Eagles snag crown

The local Lakewood Tire Eagles emerged victorious at the 17th-annual Lake of the Woods Girls’ Hockey Association’s PeeWee tournament over the weekend in Kenora, beating a team from Springfield, Man. 3-2 in the final Sunday.
“The kids really stepped up their game in the final,” said Eagles’ head coach Pete LeDrew.
“They dug down deep all weekend long, and in that final game they played their strongest, which was great to see,” he added.
Annalise Hayes scored a pair of goals to pace the Eagles in the final, with Hanna LeDrew also tallying.
The Eagles advanced to the final after finishing the round-robin portion at 3-0-1, which was the second-best mark out of the teams participating.
Also competing in the tournament was Kaemingh Esso, which made it all the way to the bronze final before falling 2-1 to McDonald’s Magic (Thunder Bay).
Emma Noga had the lone goal for Kaemingh in the loss.
