DVD produced to help Boivin family

When Corey Dobransky first heard of the accident that injured local snowmachine racer Curtis Boivin back in December, 2011, he wanted to help out as much as he can—but was unable to do so because of injuries he had suffered the previous winter in a snowmachine accident.
“I got involved in a pretty bad crash where I broke my back, so I was still recovering from that and was unable to do a whole lot when the first fundraising events were going on,” Dobransky explained.
“When I was injured, Curtis’ mom was actually my nurse for a few days, and Carol was very understanding with my accident and she would tell me about how Curtis was doing with his racing,” he recalled.
“So as I was hearing about how Curtis was doing in his recovery, I wanted to help them as much as I could,” he stressed.
As a result, Dobransky contacted a few of his friends that he’s met from riding over the years and went about making a DVD entitled “Flatneckz,” which will see all proceeds go towards the Boivin family.
“Everything happened during the winter, and with the amount of snow that we had, it’s a pretty incredible video,” Dobransky enthused.
“I took a trip out west to get some film, as well, and other guys like Jason Strom, Scott Howarth, Billy Wilson, and Joey Galloway also contributed to the project, so we have a lot of different stuff.
“There’s mountain riding, jumps, and backcountry riding on here, so it’ll keep you on your seat if you are a snowmachine enthusiast,” he added.
After working through a couple of hundred hours of editing the video, Dobransky made about 20 copies that sold quickly through either word of mouth and Facebook, with the sales increasing since then.
“As of Tuesday, we’ve sold 300 copies of the DVD and I’m hoping that we can double that,” he noted.
While Boivin has made a lot of progress since his accident in Beausejour, Man. almost 18 months ago, and he recently returned home to recover in Fort Frances, the family has stated on Curtis’ Facebook page that there still is a long road ahead for him.
As a result, Dobransky wants to raise as much money as he can to help out the family.
“I’m hoping to raise at least $1,000 through the DVD,” he said. “But if we can raise more than that, that would be fantastic.
“I’m sure they have some medical bills that have piled up over the years, and they can use it to do whatever they want with it to help Curtis out as far as I’m concerned,” he added.
“I can only imagine that the entire family has been through a real tough time.”
The DVD, which costs $10, can be purchased at Badiuk’s, West End Motors, and Cooper-Allen Chiropractic.
