If you were wandering around town over the weekend, you may have noticed a lot of unfamiliar faces on the streets and in the stores.
In addition to the curling, badminton, and other activities going on, there were 11 broomball teams in action at the 27th-annual Drew McKelvie Memorial mixed broomball tournament at the Memorial Sports Centre.
Some squads were a bit more experienced than others, but regardless of their prowess on the ice, it was clear all the teams had a very good time.
The Dryden Lakers blanked Anthony’s Automotive of Atikokan 2-0 in a very closely-contested championship final.
In the ‘B’ final, Print Gear (Kenora) got the better of the Traminators (Atikokan) while the Haps Hooligans beat their fellow Kenora-based team, Dun It Construction, in an entertaining double-overtime contest for the ‘C’ crown.
The local team, North Air Chill, was ousted by Print Gear in the ‘B’ semi-finals.
