Dozen to vie for PeeWee crown


The ice at the Memorial Sports Centre will be flooded with proficient PeeWee pucksters this weekend.
A total of 12 teams will battle it out for the championship at the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association’s PeeWee ‘A’ tournament, which begins Friday morning and wraps up Sunday afternoon.
Four Fort Frances teams will try to defend home ice, including Green’s, the Lions, Firemen, and Oddfellows.
The Emo Fury and Emo Thunderbolts are coming to town, along with teams from Dryden and Kenora (Rugged Air) and four from Thunder Bay (Westfort, Current River Ice Comets, Nor’West Stars, and Current River Comets).
Action gets underway Friday at 9 a.m. with the Firemen taking on the Emo Thunderbolts.
Preliminary round play continues all day Friday and Saturday morning, with the semi-finals starting at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Playoff action resumes Sunday at 7:30 a.m., with the final set for 1:15 p.m.
Green’s is in Pool ‘A’ with Westfort and Rugged Air, Pool ‘B’ features the Lions, Emo Fury, and Ice Comets, while Pool ‘C’ pits the Firemen versus the Emo Thunderbolts and Nor’West Stars.
Pool ‘D’ has the Oddfellows with the Comets and Dryden.
