Former Muskie Rustyn Dolyny backhanded a rebound at 7:11 of the second period Saturday to help the Michigan State Spartans capture the CCHA championship with a 6-0 romp over Nebraska-Omaha.
It was Dolyny’s second goal in as many nights as the Spartans won their second CCHA title in three years.
Dolyny also scored in a 4-0 shutout over Notre Dame in the CCHA semi-finals.
He was later named to the tournament all-star team.
Nebraska-Omaha, a first-year CCHA school and the seventh-ranked team at the tournament, reached the final after a 7-4 win over the top-seeded Michigan Wolverines.
The Spartans now move on to the 12-team NCAA tournament, facing Boston College at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis this Friday.
The winner of that game will face the Wisconsin Badgers in the second round Saturday night.
