Several district high school badminton players have advanced to the all-Ontarios set for this Thursday through Saturday in Windsor.
Muskie Aaron Bujold booked his spot by going undefeated in senior boys’ singles play at the NWOSSAA championships last Wednesday in Thunder Bay.
In senior girls’ play, fellow Muskie Michaela Putzer nabbed silver–and an OFSAA berth–by winning a pair of tie-breakers after finishing in a tie for second with two other players.
Muskies Lauren Marchant and Tayah Badiuk also captured silver in senior girls’ doubles.
Jackson Arpin of the Rainy River Owls advanced to OFSAA, as well, by finishing second in senior boys’ singles behind Bujold.
Klyer Gannon and Cloey Brigham of the Atikokan Voyageurs, meanwhile, topped the senior mixed doubles division.
Muskie Isabella Ward won the junior girls’ singles title, winning all five of her matches along the way.
She did not advance, however, as there is no OFSAA for the junior level.
As a team, Atikokan finished second overall while Fort High was fifth.
Atikokan also claimed the junior team title, with Fort High also finishing fifth.
Voyageurs Alex Krassey and Josh Pamai won the junior boys’ doubles crown while teammates Sarah Ribey and Kelly Brigham were first in junior girls’ doubles.
Monica Young and Julia Bailey of Atikokan finished second in that division.
Atikokan’s Jaron Mullner earned bronze in the junior boys’ singles division.
And in mixed doubles, the Atikokan duo of Darbie Mattson and Connor Lind earned silver.
