Display to showcase Muskie successes

Players who have donned the black-and-gold since the Muskie boys’ hockey team first hit the ice back in 1964/65 will have their accomplishments showcased in the new “Ice for Kids” arena.
“There will be a lot of memorabilia. Gold and silver medals, and a couple of great big team pictures,” enthused Barney Maher, who helping to organize the Muskie “hall of fame.”
“There will also be some plaques from OFSSA,” noted Maher, adding trophies also will be included if there’s enough room.
Maher stressed anything that pertains to Muskie hockey history will be included.
He said people have been thinking about organizing something like this for some time but remarked it never seemed right until the new arena was up and running.
“We have been thinking about it for a number of years and since the new arena is there, we thought this was a good time,” Maher reasoned.
Maher said the reason this is being done is because Fort High has had a successful boys’ hockey program for 36 years and it deserves to be recognized.
“The team has made a significant contribution to the town and the district and that should be recognized,” he stressed. “This is only one way of doing it.”
Although most of the work is done and the display should be ready to be unveiled at the end of the month, Maher said they’re still looking for some information.
Pictures still are needed for the display from 1966-72, 1974-76, and 1978-80. If anyone has a team picture from the above years, contact Maher at 274-3432.
He stressed the photographs will be returned.
