Devlin to host slo-pitch tourney

The first major slo-pitch tournament of the season runs today through Sunday at the Devlin diamond.
Proceeds from the tourney will go to help the Crossroads School rink committee build a new rink. Twelve teams will compete, including four from here and the eight league teams from Devlin.
Head organizer Joe Bodnar said everyone is welcome to watch the action, adding a social will be held Saturday night in the Devlin Hall.
The tourney is just one of may fundraising efforts by the committee, whose ultimate goal is $40,000.
Each team will be guaranteed three games, with the ‘A’-side winner capturing upwards of $300. All games will be umpired.
“[Slo-pitch is] popular in the area,” said Bodnar. “Everyone likes to play it and it’s for a good cause.”
The finals tentatively are set for Sunday beginning with the ‘C’ showdown at 12:30 p.m., followed by the ‘B’ at 2 p.m. and then the ‘A’ at 3:30.
