The reigning champs of the Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer League will have to take the long way around to get another chance at keeping their crown.
Main Street Mayhem, missing leading goal scorer Jaymee Fiset and starting keeper Krista Kellar, among others, had to forfeit its first-round playoff game to Wright Physiotherapy Rockettes last night.
The loss drops the second-ranked Mayhem into the loser’s bracket, where they will face the fourth-seeded U15 Borderland Lightning.
The loser will be eliminated from the title chase.
The top-seeded Boston Pizza Ball Blasters, meanwhile, advanced to a semi-final match-up against the third-ranked Rockettes with a 5-0 shutout over the Lightning last night.
Sydney Radigan notched a pair of goals for the Blasters, the league’s top offensive team this season.
Mary Waghorn, league goal-scoring leader Maggie Jean, and Rebecca Selman added singles.
The playoffs resume next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
