Krista Kellar took her Bobby Baun impression as far as she could.
But with three broken toes finally forcing her from the net, Main Street Mayhem couldn’t get the foothold it needed to retain its Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer League title.
Boston Pizza Ball Blasters scored three times in the final minutes of the second half—after Kellar left the game—to power their way to a 6-2 semi-final victory last night at Fort High.
That ensured the league will crown a new queen of the mountain this season when Boston Pizza meets the Wright Physiotherapy Rockettes in the final next Wednesday (May 13) at 8 p.m.
Yenta Davidson’s pair of markers had the Mayhem within one goal of the lead with time ticking down.
But Kellar’s departure necessitated the insertion of back-up keeper Jessica Wilson—and the league’s highest-scoring team took advantage with three insurance markers to seal the win.
Sydney Radigan and Tara McEachern each scored a pair of goals while Rebecca Selman and Mary Waghorn added singles.
The Mayhem advanced to the semi-final following a wild 8-6 win over the U15 Borderland Lightning the previous week.
The Lightning and Mayhem will clash again for the bronze medal next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Boston Pizza, meanwhile, forfeited its game that night to Wright Physiotherapy.
That paved an easy road for the third-place finishers during the regular season to the final.
