Davis tops Midwest Mods once again

Jamie Davis hinted he might take this past Saturday off from the racetrack.
Everyone in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds division would have preferred he had taken his own hint.
Instead, the Devlin native captured the feature race for the third-straight week in Borderland Racing Association action at the Emo Speedway.
Davis, who made local racing history by winning the feature in both the Midwest Mods and WISSOTA Modifieds the previous two weeks, set himself up for the hat trick double by beating runner-up Jason Williamson (Fort Frances) and his brother, Jeff Davis, of Devlin.
The victory vaulted Davis from fourth to second in the driving standings with 335 points, just 18 behind defending champ Cody Ossachuk of Pinewood (353), who was fourth in the feature.
But Davis’ incredible winning streak ended in the Modifieds feature, where he settled for third place behind Fort Frances drivers Brady Caul and Gavin Paull.
Davis sits fifth in the Modifieds standings with 304 points.
Defending champ Brody Strachan of Emo leads the way (344), followed by Matt DePiero of Fort Frances (329) and Paull (316).
Strachan did not finish Saturday night’s feature and wound up ninth while DePiero was fifth.
In the Street Stocks class, Tylar Wilson of Fort Frances took advantage of the absence of Stratton’s Kendal Gamsby to claim his division-leading fourth feature win of the season.
After finishing second to Gamsby the past two weeks, Wilson took the checkered flag ahead of Jesse Thompson (Emo) and Dean Kellar (Devlin).
Wilson, the 2015 division champ, now is breathing down the neck of leader Kevin Desserre (Dryden), whose fifth-place result in the feature gave him a total of 263 points–just one up on Wilson.
Thompson is third with 208, five up on Gamsby in fourth.
The Saturday will mark the Memorial Race for All Fallen Drivers, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first race at 7:30 (weather permitting).
