It was a storm of high-quality proportions.
The Cyclone Swim Club from Fort Frances ravaged the pool in Dryden, with its eight-member team chalking up 42 medals at “Splash 2017” over the weekend.
Three of the eight medalled in all nine of their events, with Sarah Rittau playing the part of the ultimate “golden girl.”
Rittau finished first in every event she entered in the female age 15-and-over division at the five-team competition that also included the host Dryden Dolphins, the Thunder Bay Thunderbolts, the Red Lake Goldfins, and the Kenora Swimming Sharks.
She zoomed to freestyle victories in the 50m (30.41 seconds), 100m (1:08.72), and 200m (2:32.43) while pulling off a butterfly double in the 50m (34.53) and 100m (1:26.81).
Rittau also topped the 200m backstroke (2:47.06) and 200m breaststroke (3:20.66), then rounded out her gold rush with I.M. triumphs in the 100m (1:18.55) and 200m (2:51.28).
Cameron McFayden, swimming in the male age 13-14 division, had gold-medal efforts in the 50m free (32.59), 100m back (1:33.38), 50m fly (37.31), and 100m fly (1:40.34).
He also won four silver in the 100m free (1:14.64), 200m free (2:57.19), 50m breast (45.50), and 100m breast (1:42.95).
McFayden completed his weekend haul with a bronze in the 200m I.M. (3:14.65).
His younger sibling, Paige, proved to be a handful to contend with herself in the female age 11-12 category.
She was a triple gold-medalist with victories in the 50m fly (38.46), 100m breast (1:40.86), and 100m I.M. (1:29.27).
McFayden also mined six silver, including the 50m free (35.59), 100m free (1:18.44), 200m free (2:48.93), 50m breast (47.50), 100m fly (1:34.42), and 200m I.M. (3:08.53).
Logan McFayden, meanwhile, was a seven-time medalist in the male age 13-14 division, including gold in the 200m breast (3:33.38).
He nabbed silver in the 200m I.M. (3:11.73) while claiming bronze in the 100m free (1:19.34), 200m free (3:01.33), 50m breast (47.22), 100m breast (1:45.06), and 50m fly (43.66).
Jaykob Ryll powered his way to four medals in the male age 15-and-over group.
He won the 100m I.M. (1:42.27) while striking for three silver in the 100m back (1:42.19), 200m back (3:41.94), and 100m fly (1:48.19).
Rookie Ingrid Ellis nabbed two medals in the female age 13-14 division, including silver in the 100m I.M. (1:33.98) and bronze in the 100m fly (1:46.43).
Mickenna Ryll captured a silver medal in the 100m back (1:49.44) in the female age 11-12 category.
And Abby Bone ensured every Cyclone on hand came away with at least one medal by winning bronze in the 50m fly (55.66) in the female age nine-10 division.
The Fort Frances Aquanauts did not participate in this meet.
