Curlers off to tough start

It’s been a tough start to the men’s and women’s provincials in Nipigon for the Trevor Bonot, Hailey Beaudry, and Jenna Enge rinks.
All three lost their opening games yesterday to get behind the eight ball early.
The Bonot rink, comprised of Stratton native Trevor Bonot (skip), Al Hackner (third), Jamie Childs (second), and Gary Champagne (lead), lost 7-4 in extra ends to the Mike McCarville rink (Thunder Bay).
On the women’s side, Beaudry’s rink–comprised of former Muskies Hailey Beaudry (skip) and Erin Tomalty (third), along with Emily Cooney (second) and Tiana Gaudry (lead)–were dumped 9-0 by Krista McCarville (Thunder Bay).
Team Enge, meanwhile, comprised of Devlin native Jenna Enge (skip), Oye-Sem Won Briand (third), Tracy Auld (second), and Amanda Gates (lead), fell 10-8 to Kira Brunton (Sudbury).
All three rinks were back in action this morning, with the outcomes not known as of press time.
Beaudry squared off against Enge while Bonot battled Robbie Gordon (Sudbury).
Bonot then will face the Jordan Chandler (Sudbury) this afternoon while Enge will meet McCarville and Beaudry will battle Brunton this evening.
Eight teams are vying for the right to advance to the Brier while four rinks are chasing a Scotties’ berth.
