The Emo Cowboys took top honours in the Bantam division while the Atikokan Voyageurs captured the Midget trophy at a tournament in Emo last weekend.
After a scoreless first period, the Cowboys exploded for five goals in a six-minute span in the second en route to a 5-0 win over the Westfort Maroons in Sunday’s final.
Trevor Smith led the attack with two goals while Andrew Morrison, Jeff Hyatt, and Joel Baker added singles.
The Cowboys had finished pool play in top spot with a maximum eight points after beating the Oddfellows (Fort Frances) 7-3, blanking Westfort 5-0 and Canadian Tire (Fort Frances) 2-0, and trouncing the Dryden BDO Jets 9-1.
Westfort advanced to the final after finishing second with four points (they were awarded second place over the Oddfellows by virtue of their 4-2 win in pool play).
Canadian Tire and the BDO Jets finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
In Midget action, the Voyageurs cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Dryden Senators in the final.
Atikokan led 3-1 after the first period, then iced the game with five unanswered goals in the third frame.
Adam Sus and Aaron Wiens led the Voyageurs with two goals each, with Stephen McLeod, Joe Braun, Bjorn Bjorkman, and Derek Marusyk adding singles.
Atikokan finished pool play with a perfect eight points after beating the host Emo Blues 6-2, blanked the Dryden Blues, downed the Fort Frances Midgets 6-1, and then doubled the Senators 6-3.
The Senators advanced to the finals after finishing second with six points, followed by Fort Frances (four), Emo (two), and the Dryden Blues (zero).
