It was the very essence of inevitability.
The Muskie senior girls’ basketball team ensured it will defend its NorWOSSA crown following a 38-27 victory over the host Kenora Broncos on Tuesday.
With their 18th-straight league win, Fort High (6-0) clinched first place with two games left in the regular season.
They also earned a bye to the NorWOSSA final Nov. 7 in Kenora, where the black-and-gold will face the semi-final winner between the Broncos (1-4) and Dryden Eagles (1-4).
Cassandra Moffitt led the Muskies with 16 points, while Sierra Cousineau pitched in with nine.
In fact, all four Muskie court teams came home victorious on Tuesday.
A terrific all-around effort boosted the Muskie junior girls’ basketball team (2-4) to a 36-26 win over Kenora (1-4).
Top scorers for the junior game were unavailable by press time.
In boys’ volleyball action, the senior Muskies (5-1) rebounded from their first NorWOSSA loss of the season last week, and a first-set letdown on Tuesday, to get past the winless Broncos by a 3-1 count.
Set scores were 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, and 25-22.
Meanwhile, the juniors improved to .500 on the season (3-3) by sweeping winless Kenora (25-15, 25-14, and 25-8).
Both Muskie basketball squads are off to Thunder Bay this weekend for a tournament.
All four teams will resume NorWOSSA action on Tuesday in Dryden.
The black-and-gold then will close out the regular season here next Thursday against Kenora, with action getting underway at noon.
