Court teams split with Broncos

The four Muskie court sports teams saw some mixed results Tuesday in Kenora.
The junior boys’ volleyball squad improved to 2-0 in NorWOSSA play with a straight-sets win (25-13, 25-22, and 25-11) over the Broncos.
The senior girls’ basketball team (1-1) also was impressive in rolling to a 75-35 rout of the host Broncos even though they were missing one of their leading scorers in Sarah Larson.
Ellie Petsnick led the black-and-gold offensively with a 28-point performance.
Jamie Spencer chipped in with 20 points while Grace Petsnick added 14.
The junior hoopsters, meanwhile, lost in heart-breaking fashion Tuesday.
After the Muskies (1-1) fought back from a seven-point deficit, Maddi Caron of the Broncos sank a buzzer-beater in the fourth quarter to lift her squad to a 32-30 victory.
Justine Linklater scored a team-high 10 points for Fort High in a losing effort.
Joanna Empey had six points, with Lauren Penney and Tatum Glowasky each netting five.
As well, the senior boys’ volleyball team lost in straight sets (16-25, 18-25, and 19-25) to the host Broncos to remain winless (0-2).
All four teams will be back in action next Tuesday (Oct. 2) when they head to Dryden to face the Eagles.
