The four Muskie court teams will resume NorWOSSA action here next Tuesday against Dryden and the coaches are confident their squads will only get better.
Three of the teams–the boys’ senior and junior basketball squads and the senior girls’ volleyballers–sport 3-0 records heading into the midway point of the eight-game regular season.
The junior girls’ volleyball team sit at 2-1.
“We are going to be okay,” noted Struchan Gilson, head coach of the junior girls’ volleyball team. “They played very well [last week in Kenora] and I keep seeing something different in the players every time we play.”
Gilson noted away games are easier to coach because he can only take 12 players. At home games, he plays the entire team.
“[Home games] we have to play them all. That is why I have got them,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Dave Ashworth, head coach of the junior boys’ basketball team, enthused his players should keep on doing well in the new year.
“We will be working on offence and executing better,” he remarked. “And following through getting the rebounds and putting the ball in the hoop.”
Still, Ashworth stressed the team has got to play well and make sure they execute on defence.
Action gets underway next Tuesday at noon with the junior hoopsters, followed by the senior boys at 1:30 p.m. The junior volleyball team hits the court at 3 p.m., with the senior squad wrapping up play starting at 4:30.
Then the Muskies will get a bit of a break due to exams. They’re not scheduled to see NorWOSSA action again until Thursday, Feb. 1 here against Dryden.
They’ll wrap up the season Feb. 8 in Kenora, here Feb. 13 versus Kenora, and then in Dryden on Feb. 15.
The NorWOSSA playoffs are slated Feb. 23 in Dryden.
