Court teams drop three of four to Dryden

The Muskie senior boys’ basketball continued their hot play of late, downing the Dryden Eagles by a convincing 71-35 score on the road yesterday afternoon.
The black-and-gold dominated the game from the opening tip-off, using their run ‘n’ gun style of offence to wear down the eagle defenders.
Leading by as many as 18 at half-time, co-coach Al McManaman was able to take the opportunity to use his bench players for most of the second half in the lopsided win.
John Sivonen was the top Fort scorer with 14 points while Bryce Coyle and Gary Wager each added a dozen. Mark Mercure also had a strong game for the black-and-gold, netting 11.
The win improved the seniors’ record to 6-1 on the season, one game ahead of the 5-2 Kenora Broncos.
(No score was available from the junior game at press time).
In volleyball action, both the Muskies senior and junior teams struggled to two games to one losses to the Eagles. The seniors won their first set 15-13 but then proceeded to drop the final two sets by identical 15-13 scores. Head coach Rick Wiedenhoeft said his team continued to struggle with intensity and had a difficult returning serves and setting up their offence.
The Muskies played particularly poorly in the second set, allowing the Broncos to jump out to a 12-0 lead, before finally getting on track to make things interesting down the stretch.
Still, despite the loss, the Muskies maintain a slim lead on top spot in NorWOSSA, just a point ahead of Kenora.
The juniors, meanwhile, lost their first match in over a year as they dropped a 7-15, 16-14, 15-11 decision to the Broncos.
The juniors also had their troubles in the second set, allowing the Broncos to comeback from a 14-9 deficit to win the set.
