Confederation College’s fifth-annual student scholarship golf tournament was a great success, attracting 122 golfers and raising more than $6,500.
With this year’s proceeds, the total scholarship fund now has in excess of $62,000.
College staff and students are very grateful to all those who came out to golf, their support, and the support from the business community, to make this possible.
This year’s tournament was sponsored by Investors Group, GBT Transportation Training Centre, Voyageur Panel, The Place/364 Stores, McDonald’s Restaurant, the Fort Frances Times, and Wilson’s Stationery.
There also were 18 local businesses that sponsored each of the 18 holes.
After a great day of golf, prizes were awarded to the top two men’s teams and the top two mixed teams. The top men’s team at eight-under par was Ken Morrison, Wayne Morrison, Larry Morrison, and William Windigo.
The runners-up were Craig Sanders, Wayne Woods, Claude Jodoin, and Mike Yuill.
Donna Lee, Nick Mainville, Ray Crowe, and Fred Crowe were the top mixed team with an amazing 11-under. Second-place mixed went to Willie Wilson, Kim DeGagne, Tim Perreault, and Dean Wilson at five-under.
A fun tradition at the tournament is to reward the team that comes in last. Last year’s record score of 16-over par was beat with a final score of +24 by the Barb, Pia, Lynn, and Patty foursome.
The well-publicized challenge between the Fort Frances Times “Kick Some Butt Behans” and the Fort Frances General Supply “Deodorizers” was won by the latter with a score of par compared to +2.
Better luck next year, Mike!
