Chiefs capture home tourney

The Chiefs women’s hockey team exacted some revenge on the Emo Misfits at its fourth-annual home tournament over the weekend.
The hosts fought back from a two-goal deficit after 40 minutes to pull out a 3-2 overtime victory Sunday afternoon in the championship game at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena).
It came as a form of revenge for the Chiefs as the Misfits had got the better of the squad in the final the previous two years.
The Chiefs pulled their goalie in favour of an extra-attacker and ended up tying it with just under two minutes to go to force overtime.
Katie Sinclair then scored the game-winner with about a minute to go in the extra frame.
Megan Joseph, who is the Lakehead University Thunderwolves’ starting goalie, earned the win.
The two squads also had faced off in round-robin play Saturday morning, with Emo prevailing 1-0 thanks to Carly Whalen’s first-period marker.
The Chiefs then skated to a 7-0 rout of International Falls.
Jill Langtry netted a hat trick in that one, with Taylor Dixon also tallying twice.
Shilo Beck and Kyleigh Ossachuk added singles.
The Chiefs then cruised to a 7-1 romp over the Thunder Bay Warriors that evening.
Hailey Clendenning netted a hat trick in that one while Shae Smith, Langtry, Beck, and Amber Jourdain had singles.
