Cheerleaders need funds for provincials

The Muskie cheerleaders practised Tuesday evening while their coaches and parents held a meeting.
The squad earned a berth to the provincial championships back on Feb. 29 but now has to come up with the money to send all 21 of them and their coaches to Mississauga at the end of April.
Still, the team was in good spirits as they rehearsed the routine they’ve been memorizing since October so it will be perfect by the time they do get to Mississauga.
“I think it will be a bigger experience than we’ve had before,” said Bobbi Larocque, who rejoined the team this year after taking last year off. “I missed it a lot.”^The girls also are looking forward to watching the other teams in competition and seeing new stunts they want to try. “We can see the differences and new things we can do,” noted Larocque.
The team won the large (20+ members) all-girl division in Thunder Bay last month, beating Dryden to advance to the provincials.
Since then, one member has quit the team, leaving them with 21— each with her own role to play.
“The hardest thing is different for every girl,” said Jenna Cousineau, a Grade 10 student in her second year cheering. “Some girls are natural dancers, some girls have that feeling when they’re in the air.”^A special addition to this year’s squad was Anke Denzin, a German exchange student at Fort High.
“I’ve been [coaching] since 1991 and it’s the first time I’ve ever had an exchange student,” said teacher/ coach Joyce Scott.
