Charges laid during blitz

the MNR

Conservation officers from Kenora District laid 13 charges and issued 39 warnings during an enforcement blitz Aug. 2-10 on the Winnipeg River between Kenora and the Manitoba border.
Officers checked 264 anglers, of which 209 were non-residents, for compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and Ontario fisheries regulations.
Charges and warnings were issued for:
•possessing an over-limit of walleyes;
•transporting fish taken unlawfully as they were in a restricted size range;
•failing to keep fish measurable and identifiable; and
•fishing without a licence and failing to produce a licence.
Officers also laid two charges and issued three warnings against individuals for having open liquor in a boat.
The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that conservation officers conduct routine checks to ensure anglers are obeying a variety of resource laws.
