Seven days was not enough for the Muskie football team to figure out how to beat the St. Norbert Celtics.
The Celtics jumped out to a commanding 41-0 lead by halftime, then cruised from there to a 49-20 triumph in the first round of the WHSFL 4th Division playoffs Friday in Winnipeg.
St. Norbert had beaten Fort High 27-6 one week earlier on its home field—and was even more devastating with the season on the line for both teams.
The Muskies finish the season, their second under head coach Mike Cuzzolino, with a 2-4 regular-season record plus the playoff loss.
Meanwhile, there are tentative plans for an exhibition game in Thunder Bay against an undetermined opponent.
Cuzzolino posted on the team’s Facebook page that the game was requested by coaches from there because they want to look at some of the Muskie players as possible candidates for the Northwestern Ontario under-18 Canada Cup team that will play later this year.
