Caul, Pilots claim bronze again

A different year meant the same result for Jess Caul.
The Fort Frances native had one assist in helping the Providence University College Pilots (Otterburne, Man.) blank the Ohio Christian University Traiblazers (Circleville, Ohio) by a 4-0 margin in the bronze-medal game of the National Christian Colleges Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II national women’s soccer championships on Saturday in Kissimmee, Fla.
Caul’s helper on Navreen Sidhu’s goal in the 81st minute was the icing on the cake for No. 2-ranked Providence, who also won bronze at last year’s nationals.
Julika Kehler, named the tournament’s most valuable offensive player with four goals, scored in the second and 75th minute for the Pilots, while Robyn Coffey added one in the 58th.
Kate Osadchuk, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team, had the shutout for Providence over the No. 4-seeded Trailblazers.
The Pilots and No. 3-ranked Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats (Watertown, Wisc.) each finished Pool ‘B’ play at 1-0-1.
But Maranatha won a tiebreaker based on most goals scored when they shut out the No. 6-rated Baptist Bible University Defenders 4-0 on Friday to end up with five goals in pool play compared to three for Providence.
The Sabercats then lost 2-0 to the top-ranked Clearwater Christian College Cougars (Clearwater, Fla.) in Saturday’s gold-medal game.
