It had been awhile between wins, so it must have felt pretty good.
Brady Caul soared to his second checkered flag of the season as he topped the WISSOTA Modifieds feature at the Race of Champions qualifier hosted by the Borderland Racing Association on Saturday night at the Emo Speedway.
The Fort Frances native had won the first race of the season back on May 18, but hadn’t claimed a feature win after that until this past weekend.
Caul nabbed the victory in Saturday’s race over three-time defending points champ Brody Strachan of Emo and Gavin Paull of the Fort.
Tony Caissie (Winnipeg, Man.) was fourth while Blake Ferris (Emo) rounded out the top five.
Despite his second-place finish on Saturday night, Strachan still maintained his perch at the top of the division’s point standings with 951.
Tyler Brown of Rainy River is second with 875 points, followed by Brandon Pelepetz of Emo (809) and Ron Korpi of the Fort (788).
Caul rounds out the top five with 716 points.
In WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds action, meanwhile, Cody Ossachuk of the Fort cruised to his second feature win in a row.
The two-time defending points champ claimed the checkered flag over James Lambert of the Fort and Wyatt Boyum of International Falls.
Jason Anderson (Fort) wound up fourth while Dayton Brady (Devlin) rounded out the top five.
With the win, Ossachuk increased his points lead in the division to 23 over Lambert (897-874).
Mike Wilson of Devlin currently sits third (821), followed by Carter Kinnear of Emo (672) and Tanner Williamson of the Fort (619).
And in Street Stocks action, Raice Westover secured his second feature win of the season.
The Fort native earned the win over the Falls pair of TJ and Jeff Wickstrom.
Westover’s sister, Jyllian, placed fourth while Stephan Brown of Stratton rounded out the top five.
Three cars also did not finish the feature race on Saturday night.
With the win, Raice Westover upped his division lead in the points race to 66 over Jesse Thompson of Emo (926-860).
Dean Kellar of Devlin currently sits third with 834 points, followed by Jyllian Westover (825) and defending champ Tylar Wilson of the Fort (805).
Racing resumes this Saturday, with hot laps starting at 7 p.m. and the first race to follow at 7:30 (weather permitting).
Borderland Kart Racing, meanwhile, had to cancel its races on Friday night due to the track being too muddy from the recent rainfall.
Racing will resume this Friday at 7 p.m. (weather permitting).
In racing action elsewhere over the weekend, Williamson raced to victory in the Midwest Modifieds feature at Lake of the Woods Speedway in Kenora on Friday.
Jake Froemke of the Falls was first in the Street Stocks feature at Winnipeg’s Red River Co-op Speedway on Saturday.
Tylar Wilson was seventh in the same race.
In the Midwest Modifieds feature in Winnipeg, Emo’s Christopher Leek–who now lives in Manitoba–was sixth.
And Jeff Davis of Devlin wound up ninth in the Modifieds feature at Hibbing on Saturday.
