Eight divers from the Thunder Bay Diving Club represented Thunder Bay at the 2011 Speedo Junior National Diving Championships held in Pointe-Claire, Que. on July 6-10.
Group ‘C’ divers Molly Carlson, Rylee Mose, Tori Lafontaine, and Helena Heiskanen competed at this year’s nationals, along with Group ‘D’ divers Cristen Merlo, Coralie Cote, Kamryn Knapton, and Noah Kilby.
Carlson, who has family connections in Rainy River District, earned a silver medal and made Team Canada.
This makes for a total of six national medals in four years for Carlson.
She is ranked third overall in her age group, and will compete in the Pan American Junior Championships in Colombia in September.
Carlson, Mose, Cote, and Merlo all finaled (i.e., came in the top 12) at the nationals.
Carlson took the silver in the three-metre springboard, finished fourth in the one-metre, and placed seventh in platform in the 12-13 age group.
Mose finished seventh in the one-metre and placed 12th in platform in the same age group.
Cote, a first-time national athlete, finished eighth in platform, took eighth in the three-metre, and placed ninth in the one-metre in the 11-and-under age group.
Merlo finished ninth in platform and 12th in the one-metre in that same age group.
