Molly Carlson is off to a good start at the 2009 Speedo junior national diving championships in Victoria, B.C.
The 10-year-old Thunder Bay native, who has family ties to Fort Frances, dove to a fourth-place finish in the one-metre springboard event yesterday in the 11-and-under division.
Carlson had a total score of 223.80 points after seven dives, with fellow Thunder Bay Diving Club member Rylee Mose finishing 18th (173.35).
Emily Schmidt of Calgary took the gold with 257.95 points, followed by Dominique Cadieux of Edmonton (257.85) and Lindsay Leonard from Quebec (235.20).
Both Carlson and Mose were set to compete in the three-metre event early this afternoon.
