The freshman phenom is ready to take on all comers in the U.S. college diving ranks.
Fort Frances native Molly Carlson placed fifth in the 3m event for the Florida State Seminoles at the Zone ‘B’ Qualifier on Monday at Auburn, Ala.
That result was good enough to earn her a spot in the NCAA championships in Indianapolis that begin next Wednesday (March 15).
“Molly is such a gamer,” Seminoles’ head diving coach John Proctor said in a story posted on www.seminoles.com
“She’s used to those big meets, and she stepped up and did what she needed to do today,” he noted.
“I am very proud of her.”
Carlson garnered 296.05 points to place eighth in the preliminary round.
She then upped her game in the second round, improving to 311.45 points for a total of 607.50.
“She thrives on that competition,” Proctor said about the 17-year-old who now calls Toronto home.
“This is a very competitive field and she loves that stage.”
Carlson was fresh off being named MVP of the Atlantic Coast Conference diving championships last month.
