Turnabout is fair play.
After rallying from 10-0 down during the regular season to beat the Red Gut Babes at VanJura, the Fort Frances Her-icanes suffered their own collapse on the same field last night in Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League semi-final action.
The second-ranked ’Canes let a 12-0 lead after three innings evaporate before eventually losing 17-14 to the fourth-seeded Babes.
That means a much easier road to a possible third-straight RRDWFL title for defending champion Red Gut, which only needs to win one out of two games in the league final to retain its title.
Their opponent will have to beat them twice in order to claim the crown.
Fort Frances now will await the winner of Monday’s losers’ side semi-final between the third-ranked Northwest Bay Beavers and seventh-seeded Manitou Blaze.
The Beavers earned a 15-8 road win over the Big Grassy Lynx last night to oust the regular-season champs and top playoff seed from further contention.
The eighth-ranked Dawson Diggers, meanwhile, were eliminated with an 18-6 loss to the host Blaze last night.
Karma Andy, fresh off her appearance at the Canadian Native Fastball Championships in Winnipeg over the weekend, earned the win.
