The Fort Frances Canadians topped the Atikokan Voyageurs 8-6 in a shootout on Sunday in Midget ‘AA’ action at the Ice for Kids Arena here.
Jeff Gustafson and Nathan Calder scored for the hosts in the shootout while Atikokan was unable to get a shot by Canadians’ goalie James Wallin.
The Canadians opened the scoring in the first period with a goal by Jordan Sinclair.
But midway through the second, with the home team up by four on goals from Tim Sharp, Cody Bodnar, and Calder, Atikokan rallied with goals by Davis Smith and Bryce Johnson.
The Voyageurs then tied the score early in the third on goals by Johnson and Smith again.
The Canadians replied with a goal from Sinclair, but Ty Brueggeman quickly tied it for Atikokan.
Then after Brett Bodnarchuk got the Canadians back in the lead for the third time, Brueggeman again tied the score at 6-6.
The Canadians next will see action Dec. 27 at a holiday tournament in Blaine, Mn.
