The Fort Frances Canadians finished third at the third-annual FASA Invitational Jr. Gold hockey tournament over the weekend in Grand Forks, N.D.
The Canadians opened play with a thrilling 4-3 overtime win over Grand Forks Gold on Friday afternoon.
Tyler Harris led the Canadians offensively with a natural hat trick while Andrew Maki netted the game-winner 1:25 into the extra frame.
Next up for the Fort Frances squad were the Duluth Jr. Gold in the ‘A’ division semi-finals Saturday morning.
The Canadians held a 2-1 lead midway through the game thanks to a pair of goals from Jared Baker. But Duluth rallied with four unanswered goals over the final period-and-a-half for a 5-2 victory.
The loss to Duluth meant the Canadians faced the Fargo Flames in the consolation final Sunday afternoon.
As they had all weekend, Baker and Harris once again led the way. Baker netted four goals while Harris added a hat trick in the Canadians’ 8-0 romp over the Flames.
Dayton Brown rounded out the scoring.
The Canadians are back in action this weekend (Feb. 2-4) when they compete at the Duluth Jr. Gold tournament.
