Former Muskie football coach Jack Cameron recently was honoured during half-time ceremonies of a Winnipeg High School Football League game in Winnipeg.
Cameron was inducted into the WHSFL’s Hall of Fame as a player for the Sisler Spartans, where he had been selected as an all-star on both the offensive and defensive teams.
He was awarded athletic scholarships from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the University of North Dakota, where he lettered in both football and wrestling.
Cameron continued playing football until 1968 with the Canadian Senior Football champion St. James Rams.
Cameron also was a successful high school football coach, winning city championships with the 1963 and 1965 Sisler Spartans as well as the 1989 NorWOSSA crown with the Muskies.
Although Cameron now lives in Winnipeg with his wife, Elsie, his son, Michael, accepted the award on his behalf.
Cameron was unable to attend the ceremony because he’s currently in Surrey, B.C. coaching the defensive backs of the ‘AAA’ Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers with his son, offensive co-ordinator Jordy Cameron, and head coach Kurt Thornton—both former Muskie players.
