Busy night for fastball, soccer

Erika Paulsen pitched a two-hitter and fanned 15 as the Fort Frances Mud Dogs beat the visiting Sabaskong Tebinaak 6-2 in Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League action last night.
The Fort Frances Herricanes also put another notch in the win column with a 25-4 blowout over the Manitou Blaze.
It wasn’t a sweep for town teams, however, as the Fort Frances Juniors fell 15-13 in Northwest Bay.
The Couchiching Lady Raiders, meanwhile, dumped the Red Gut Babes 21-12 at Couchiching.
The Big Grassy Lynx improved to 9-0 with a 31-4 rout over the Big Island Wildcats.
The other game saw the Dawson Diggers win by forfeit over the Sabaskong Cougars.
In Rainy River District Fastball League play tonight, the first-place Blue Knights (8-1) will host the unbeaten Rainy Lake Pirates (7-0) at Oltsher Field in Barwick.
Other games will see the Sight & Sound Wolves host the Stratton Bobcats at VanJura at 7 p.m. while Windey’s Warriors meet the Manitou Thunderbirds at Couchiching.
The Couchiching Raiders are in Big Island to face the Huskies, the Sabaskong Cubs travel to Rainy River to meet the Royals, and the Sabaskong Lakers host the Dawson Tigers.
On the pitch last night, Erin Tomalty netted a hat trick as the La Place Rendez-Vous U18 Voyageurs remained undefeated with a 9-0 romp over Boston Pizza in Borderland Soccer League women’s division action.
Maggie Jean, Jaymee Fiset, Claire Hyatt, Bryanna Dustin, Siobhan Mackintosh, and Avery Wilson-Hands each had singles against keeper Amy Wilson-Hands.
Dustin and Angel McCormack shared the shutout for the Voyageurs.
The night’s other game between Al’s Racquet Stringing and Taggs was postponed because the latter team did not have enough players to start the game.
A makeup date has not been announced.
The men take over the pitches this evening, with Pharmasave facing Manitou Forest Products while International Travel Services battles the La Place Rendez-Vous U18 Voyageurs.
Action gets underway at 7 p.m.
