With their competitions now complete, the members of the Border Skating Club have been hard at work over the last couple of weeks as they get ready for their annual ice show on Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m.
“Everyone involved, whether they are skating, coaching, or helping out behind the scenes, is starting to get very excited about it,” coach Nicole Campbell explained.
This year’s show, which is entitled “Confessions of the Shopaholics,” will feature a total of 18 numbers, which will range from group routines and solo performances.
“The theme will certainly appeal more to the females in the audience,” Campbell said.
“It’s actually a year-long process to get the show together, as we start working on things about month into the year once everything gets underway.
“Usually, the skaters have about two weeks to work on their actual routines, but this year they have three weeks of practice time because of when Easter is,” she added.
It’s not just the skaters that have a lot of work to do before the show, as there are a number of departments that do work behind the scenes, which include the process of painting the ice.
“I get very little sleep come show day,” Campbell laughed.
“It takes our group at least 10 hours to finish the ice, and it’s something that we start doing on Friday night and finish up early on Saturday morning.
“There are a number of people that do a lot of work beforehand though, whether it’s through ticket sales or getting the costumes for the routines,” she added.
This year’s ice show will also mark the last time that two members of the BSC will be participating, as Chelsea Mosley and Jillian Bobczynski are both set to graduate.
“They’ll be gracing the ice one more time with solo routines, and they will also be involved with group numbers,” Campbell noted.
Tickets for this year’s show can be purchased in advance at the front desk of the Memorial Sports Centre, or at the door on show day.
Weekend pass is $15, and adult day pass is $12.
Seniors 55+ and children’s day pass is $8, and children 3 and under are free
