The Fort Frances Bruins simply were too much to “bear” for any of their opponents.
Addison Chown and Marlee Bliss combined for all seven goals as the Bruins dumped the Lake of the Woods Storm 7-1 in the final of the Fort Frances Girls’/Women’s Hockey Association’s Novice division tournament Sunday at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Chown tallied four times while Bliss had a hat trick as the two took turns giving nightmares to the Storm defenders.
For the weekend, the Bruins outscored their opponents 35-2, with the duo accounting for all but one of their team’s goals (17 apiece).
Shayna Shute gave up a first-period marker but nothing more to earn the win in goal.
In the Bruins’ opener, Chown scored six times while Bliss added three in a 10-0 pasting of the Emo Express.
Ella Evans netted the other goal, with Shute getting the shutout.
The Bruins then downed the Dryden Flames 4-1, with Bliss notching all four goals.
Chown and Bliss each bulged the twine four times, and Shute was perfect in net, during an 8-0 trouncing of the Fort Frances Heat.
Then the two sharpshooters matched hat tricks in a 6-0 win over the Storm in a preview of the final as Shute recorded her third shutout.
The Heat, meanwhile, advanced to the bronze-medal game, but were nipped 3-2 by Dryden.
Rayna Whitefish and Sayler Easton scored for the local squad.
Hannah Pope scored twice and Easton had a single as the Heat won its opener 3-0 over Emo, with Ashlee Homer earning the shutout.
The Heat then tied the Flames 1-1 as Davilyn Miller had the team’s only tally.
Emo ended up 0-4 at the tourney.
The Express also lost 4-1 to the Storm, with Sienna Tom getting her squad’s only goal of the weekend.
Emo closed the tourney with a 7-0 loss to Dryden.
