The four Muskie court teams led in several of their matches against host Kenora yesterday but could not translate those into victories as the Broncos swept them.
The junior boys’ volleyball team missed a glorious opportunity to pick up their first win of the season.
The black-and-gold came out strong, taking the first two sets of the best-of-five match by scores of 25-18 and 25-15. But they could not find a way to seal the victory, dropping the final three by scores of 25-22, 25-11, and 15-10.
The loss dropped the junior boys to 0-4 in NorWOSSA action so far this season.
The senior boys’ volleyball team, meanwhile, followed their junior counterparts, getting out to an early lead against the host Broncos before faltering.
The Muskies took the opening set 25-23 but then dropped three-straight (25-14, 25-20, and 25-19) to also remain winless on the season (0-4).
The Muskies’ tough day continued on the basketball court, where the junior girls’ suffered their first loss of the season with a 21-19 setback to the Broncos.
The Muskies (3-1) started strong, building a 15-7 lead by halftime, but could not hang on for their fourth win of the year.
Taylor Meyers led Fort High with nine points.
And while the senior girls were the only Muskie squad not to blow a lead yesterday, the end result was the same—a 24-17 loss to the Broncos.
The game was close at the half, with Kenora holding slim 9-6 advantage.
But the black-and-gold went cold in the third quarter at the offensive end, scoring just one point. They rallied in the fourth, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Alyssa Holliday led the Muskies (1-3) with 12 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter.
The Muskies resume NorWOSSA action next Thursday (Oct. 17) when they travel to Dryden to face the Eagles.
