Broncos blank Muskies

Staff

So much for thoughts of a winning streak for the Muskie football team, at least for now.
Coming off a season-opening victory Sept. 8 that snapped a nearly two-year losing skid in the WHSFL, Fort High fell 36-0 to the Kenora Broncos in its home-opener Friday afternoon.
With an on-again, off-again rain falling, the Muskies (1-1) kept it close through three quarters and only trailed the Broncos (2-0) 13-0 entering the fourth.
But Kenora’s relentless running attack, which piled up 388 yards, eventually wore down the black-and-gold and led to three fourth-quarter touchdowns.
Chase Neufeld racked up 26 carries and 215 yards for the Broncos to go along with three touchdowns.
Clark Boucha added another 113 yards on 15 rushes.
Sekina Scheibler, named the Currie Division’s offensive player-of-the-week after scorching the Maples Marauders for 309 yards in the season-opener, mostly was kept in check by the Broncos.
He finished with just 68 yards on 19 carries as Fort High managed only 77 yards of total offence compared to 428 for Kenora.
Scheibler also led the Muskies defensively with 10.5 tackles while Graham Anderson added 8.5.
Damon Nyberg had five tackles, as well as a fumble recovery.
The Muskies will look to regroup this Friday when they host the West Kildonan Wolverines (1-1) at 4 p.m.
