The 1999-2000 curling season concluded on Saturday at the Fort Frances Curling Club with the second-annual Crazy Curling Spiel.
Once all the crazy shots were made and the crazy points tallied, the Broman family of Mark, Bonnie, Chris, and Rylee were crowned championships for this season.
Coming back from an eighth-place position after the first round, the Broman quartet jumped all the way to first place after the second and final round. Beginning the final round with 218 points, the Broman rink roared back to score a whopping 571 points in the second round to capture the Y2K event with 789 points .
The comeback was keyed by a 75-point hopscotch draw shot by Rylee and some great takeouts in the Crokinole portion by Chris.
Quite a crazy achievement.
In the Lil Rockers Family Spiel, Jennifer Hawley’s team of Gerry Hawley, Morgan Anderson, and Matthew McQuaker, and coached by Jacob Hawley, won the six-team event.
Meanwhile, the Fort Frances Curling Club now sets its sights on this weekend’s annual awards banquet at the curling club. Tickets are still available at the curling club (274-6667) or at Sight & Sound.
Cost is $20, which includes a barbecue and a social afterwards.
